Ana Atalaya Magdalena (b.2002) is a queer Chicana sculptor, video artist, and author from Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Her work addresses the relationship between history and identity through self-portraiture and memoir. In May of 2025, she earned a B.A. in Studio Arts, with a Second Major in American Culture Studies from the Sam Fox School at Washington University. In 2024, she attended the Yale Norfolk School of Art Residency, and in 2024-2025, served as an Atkins Fellow in the Art of Democracy at the Gephart Institute. While at the Gephart Institute, she produced her first funded documentary film, “american girldoll” (2025). The same year, Magdalena’s first full-length poetry collection, “She Who Eats Tourists,” was published under Fifth Wheel Press. She has been a Brower Youth Award Winner, a recipient of the 30 under 30 Changemaker’s Award, and at one time the Santa Fe Youth Poet Laureate. Her writing has appeared in publications such as Inlandia Literary Journal, Subnivean Magazine, Magma Poetry, and Fifth Wheel Press (from whom she received a 2022 Pushcart Prize Nomination). Her artwork has been shown by Alas De Agua Cultural Center, Des Lee Gallery, Zane Bennet Contemporary Art Gallery, The SITE Santa Fe Museum, and the El Museo Cultural Santa Fe, among others. She is currently the Visiting Master Artist at Artworks Santa Fe, where she teaches art and poetry to middle and high school students. Her favorite color is the teal of a hummingbird’s feather.
