BRUJA ROSA
“Bruja Rosa” begin as a sculpture that I made in highschool while attending the Oxbow School in Napa California. It was an attempt to construct a body which could be substituted for my own, to share the responsibilities of my face, my pain, and my prayers. When the COVID-19 Pandemic required that we evacuate the school I asked the staff to destroy the work once I was gone. It was never shown. Since then Bruja Rosa has existed as a digital haunting. I recreated her as an appiration while in college, projecting her on to the walls of Washington University. By creating, decoporalizing, and reproducing a figurative body I’ve attempted to realize in form the trajectories of ghosthood, resurrection, and visitation.
